Friendship experiment: "Unexhausted kindliness"

Today I tried to incorporate Emerson's suggestions into my actions. For example, I tried to be more sincere by having the "presence of power and consent in the other party" because Emerson was "equally balked by antagonism and by compliance(210)." I accomplished this by not always agreeing with other's assertions and trying to express my own opinions as well. Also, instead of automatically replying "good" to "how are you?" I tried to be more sincere in my response as wll as trying to truthfully listen to other's responses when I asked how they were.
Another way in which I tried to incorporate Emmerson's suggestions was by "respecting so far the holy laws of this fellowship as not to prejudice its perfect flower by thy impatience for its opening(211)." I tried this through trying "to be your own before we could be another's", or not making new friends or being with friends for the reason of being bored, but for the reason of admiring their charachter.
Also, I tried to let them be "a spirit.A message, a thought, a sincerity, a glance(211)," by avoiding gossip and not constantly calling her for help, trying to be more self- reliant. Another way was that I sat next to someone who I did not know very well in spite of being afraid they may ignore or mock me because I tried to "let [the] greatness educate the crude and cold companion... [I would be] enlarged by [my] own shining(213)". Emerson states that people should allow their magnanimous spirits shine with friendly gestures despite the risk of loving unrequited because "true love transcends the unworthy object and dwells and broods on the eternal(214)."In essence, when we allow our magnanimous spirits to shine we create a chain reaction of friendliness which then passes on the the next person who will do kind gestures to another and in the end we will be able to make a difference one friend at a time.
